St Mary's RC Primary School

We love God, We love learning, We love each other

Year 4

Welcome to our Class 4 Page!

Our topic this term will be The Egyptians. We will be looking at Egyptian mummies, Tutankhamun and Egyptian Gods.

Our book this half term is  - Five children and it.

I want to thank you for ensuring your child has brought in their PE kit every week and hopefully may it continue. There will be opportunities for further inter-competition in various sports this term for our year group, so I will be looking for children who wish to compete against other schools and represent St Mary’s.

This half term PE will be every Monday and Thursday. Most lessons will take place outside so please could you ensure that your child brings an outdoor kit (e.g. t-shirt, tracksuit bottoms, jumper and trainers of some sort).

As discussed, spellings will still be sent out every Wednesday. I, therefore, encourage parents to help assist their child practise their spellings in various ways to help embed. Spelling tests will then take place on the Monday.

Thank you for the support on the reading competition.

Reading is going to be a constant focus this term so I would like to keep encouraging each child to enjoy reading. Therefore, we are going to keep a focus on certain authors for enjoyment.

We will continue to use the Reading Record book for books that have been sent home. For the Free Readers they will be encouraged to keep a record of a book they are reading. I will be sending book reviews home to help your child share their opinions on the book they read.

Please encourage your child to read. It can be a book, magazine, comic, anything really that helps encourage your child to read for pleasure.

Another constant focus for this last term is Handwriting. The aim is to ensure that each child is using cursive writing so your child is ready in Year 5.

The pack that I have sent is a guide to help you and your child practice Maths, Spelling and Handwriting. I encourage parents to find other resources to encourage specific practice to assist progress.

I encourage parents to look on the school website on the Year 4 page to find what we will be working on in class.

I look forward to carrying on our work to help your child reach their full potential. If you have any queries or concerns throughout this next term please do not hesitate to pop in and arrange a time to discuss these. Thank you.
