Our Reading Champion challenge:

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

— Dr. Seuss

At St Mary's, we are incredibly passionate about reading and allowing the children the opportunity to read a wide variety of books so that they can find the books and authors that they LOVE!

Our Reading Champion Challenge allows the children to do just that! We are encouraging children to read extra books alongside the ones they bring home weekly from school.

We challenge all children from Reception- Year 6 to read a certain amount of books meeting different criteria over the whole year. The challenge will run until July 2022.

Reception: We challenge you to read 12 books meeting 12 different criteria.

Key Stage 1: We challenge you to read 20 books meeting 20 different criteria.

Year 3 and 4: We challenge you to read 8 books

Year 5 and 6: We challenge you to read 10 books.

Here are some website links to Recommended reading lists for each year group:

These recommended reading lists have been curated and reviewed by a small group of librarians and English teachers who meet each summer to discuss books which have worked well with groups of children, new releases within the last 12 months and the short lists for children's literature awards.

Some of these books will be available from school or at our local library!

For Key Stage 2, our 100 books to read before you leave Year 6 is also a great document to pick from and we do have ALL these books in our school library... please see underneath for this document.

Our Year 6 librarians will be in charge of this challenge. Once children have read a book, they will need to complete their age appropriate  book review and bring it to the librarians who will then put it in the prize draw.
There will be a prize draw every half term and there will be a winner from: reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

HAPPY READING! :)
